With the jack and the jukeboxI cut the engine of my car and slipped out, closing the door behind me. I skipped up the sidewalk toward Lucia's house, my Cheerio's skirt swishing against my body. It was a kindof warm day, not particularly but it wasn't cold. I'd left school, gone home to dump my schoolbag and stuff then driven straight to Lucia's.
I knocked on the door and pulled my cell out of my purse. A text. From Karofsky. Ugh, I might have screwed nearly all of the football team, but Karofsky was never getting a piece of this. (Cue overly dramatic gesture to my body).

| I was busy, sorting out my room. Shoving my make up & stuff into my little make up box & clearing some of my shelves. When I noticed a picture on my side cabinet I hadn't noticed before, I walked over to it & picked it up. It was a picture of me... as a baby with my family... but not this family, my real family. I'd never been told why my real family had ditched me at some care home, but I didn't like to talk about it. That's why the only people who knew I was adopted were my family & Carly. She was the only person I'd ever told...
Then, as if on cue the door bell rang. My family were out at the moment so it was just me in the house. On my way down I grabbed my bottle of Dr. Pepper & took a sip, carrying it with me as I opened the door & smiled. "Hey Carly!" I said, hugging her. | |
